2021 is turning out to be an even busier year than ever with ever changing travel news and policies. I’ve spent the last week researching this to make sure you are well informed about what it means for you and travel this year. These new policies should make travel safer, but also a bit harder to navigate (and a bit more expensive). Here’s what you need to know:
Domestic Travel News
As of January 21, a new executive order mandates that masks are required on any mode of interstate transport (airplanes and trains), national parks or federal property. While this does not change current airline policy, it will make mask guidelines the norm.
There are no regulations on domestic travel outside of the mask policy currently; however, there are state regulations you should be aware of and honor like New York’s quarantine policy. As always, this is an evolving topic. If you ever are confused, reach out to me directly!
International Travel News
Starting January 26th, the CDC will require any traveler entering the United States to show they tested negative for Covid within 3 days of arrival to the US. What this means for you if you are traveling internationally:
Testing:
You will need to find a testing location on your trip 72 hours in advance of your departure. The best way to do this is to ask your hotel or resort if they have testing on property. Not sure if your resort has this? Email me to find out! I have a list of properties that offer this.
Costs
You are responsible for paying for the testing costs. Costs range in price from $100-$400 each depending on the resort. Make sure to check with the resort (or me) on costs and factor that into your budget!
Plan B:
You’ll need a plan if your test comes back positive as you will be required to quarantine for 14 days at the location. Most travel insurance will not cover this. Right now, some amazing resorts like Aman and AMResorts will cover you if you have to quarantine for 14 days.
What to bring to the airport:
Every airline will be checking for a negative covid result when you are re-entering the U.S. Bring a PRINTED copy of your test result. There are varying ways that airlines are checking, so make sure to have a hard copy.
If you have tested positive, you need a different bill of materials. Here’s what you will need: A doctor’s note clearing you of covid and your first positive test (15 days in advance of the date of travel)
