I hope you’ve had as exciting of a week as I had at Virtuoso Travel Week. I had over 25 meetings with hotels, tour operators, and destinations from around the world to discover what the future of travel will look like.
What’s Virtuoso Travel Week? It’s essentially the fashion week for travel, where I get a pulse on the future of travel from the people who create these experiences. Read more here.
What does this mean for you? It means you have an actual person who can connect you with a person at the destination. A person who can help you navigate the local policies and the best places to go. Skip the endless internet search of trying to figure it all out without context from a real human.
Why is this important for you when thinking about future of travel? Travel is changing quickly. Having someone on the ground both here and at the destination means you will be taken care of no matter where you go, especially in the current world context.
So, I’ve been asked a lot of questions about the future of travel. Here are some answers from Virtuoso Travel Week:
- When is travel abroad for Americans going to be ok? I’m going to be really honest. No one could give me an exact answer as of today August 13. It’s truly a personal choice and based on each destination’s regulations. There are many destinations that are open to Americans like the Maldives, Croatia, Turks & Caicos and select cities in Mexico. Other destinations in Europe, Switzerland, Australia, and Jordan gave reopening date ranges from November 2020 to June 2021
- How has travel abroad shifted? Destinations are fairly empty (no surprise there), some key activities or tourism places are not open yet, and increased domestic tourism or from the EU/Canada
- What do the safety processes look like? Across the world, destinations, hotels, resorts, and tour operators have put protocols in place to keep you safe. Processes like enhanced sanitization measures, reduced capacity everywhere, mask requirements, temperature checks for staff, social distancing, and more time outside
- What will we need in order to travel abroad? It depends on where you want to go, but this is what I’m seeing: you’ll need a negative Covid19 test, a mask, and an open mind
- Will I ever be able to go? The answer is yes! Every destination around the world is gearing up for your return in 2022 and beyond. New experiences are right around the corner.
