Hawaii’s reopening has been on my mind for the past few months. Have you been eyeing Hawaii in quarantine?
With its amazing weather and outdoor activities, Hawaii is the perfect place to socially distance from the world. Today, I’m sharing everything you need to know about Hawaii’s reopening.
So what do you need to go?
If you don’t want to quarantine for 14 days, you will need to provide a negative Covid test within 72 hours of your last leg departure flight. This test will need to be paid for by you and must be a test that is approved by the Hawaiian state government. For those coming from the midwest or East Coast, it means that you need to plan out exactly when you take the test to make sure you take it 72 hours before the last leg.
What will the flight be like?
Airlines are trying to make Hawaii’s reopening as safe as possible by offering testing options (not included in ticket prices). What this means is that everyone on the flight will need a negative test before getting on the plane. This does not guarantee complete safety, but it is great to know that everyone on the last flight has tested negative and will be wearing masks. Here’s what the airlines are offering for testing on top of unheard of ticket prices:
- United Airlines announced that customers flying from SFO to all Hawaii destinations will have the option for either a rapid test delivered at the airport or a mail-in test that can be completed within the 72-hour window requirement
- American Airlines announced 3 testing options for travelers out of Dallas Fort Worth and California to Honolulu and Maui
- Hawaiian Airlines also announced that they will offer drive-through testing in LA and San Francisco for customers flying to Hawaii. They are offering a unique express service that delivers results in 24 hours for an extra fee ($150 vs $90).
Will Hawaii be Hawaii when you go?
Yes, but it will be different. Restaurants, state parks, and activities will be open but at a smaller scale. Reservations required. Masks required in public places and at resorts. Don’t expect to island hop because your test only counts for 1 island. If you decide to island hop, you will be subject to a 2 week quarantine on arrival of at the second island. But what’s great about Hawaii is that the weather will be nice enough to adventure outdoors and take advantage of water activities, hiking, and long walks on the beach.
What can you expect from resorts?
A few things: an increased focus on sanitization and social distancing, more time in between guest visits for rooms (aka you won’t be in a room that someone has just been in), reduced capacity and unheard of offers. Curious to know what exclusive offers I can give you access to?
