After months of being locked away, we took a 10 day road trip through California. We visited San Diego, Palm Springs, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and Solvang. What this trip taught me was to be so grateful for the time to explore. It also taught me even more about what to expect when traveling right now. Here’s what I learned on my road trip:
- Traveling safely was only hard because of other people. Even though we took every step to distance, wear masks, the only thing we could not account for is everyone else. Everyone’s comfort level is different even from city to city!
- Not all accommodations are created equal in terms of sanitization practices. We tested out an airbnb, hotel, and five star hotel. The differences in sanitary practices were quite large. For anyone who wants to be safe, I truly recommend reaching out to a travel professional (or me) to verify a property’s sanitization procedures.
- Road tripping is different. Think less stops and more searching. We avoided stopping as much as we could and limited contact with where we went. It wasn’t as simple to stop over whenever as many gas stations and fast food restaurants often have closed restrooms.
- If you haven’t planned ahead, don’t expect to be able to do it. This goes for any activity, dinner, breakfast, or anything outside of walking outside. Although we had planned several winery tours beforehand, we did try to be a bit more spontaneous. Unfortunately that did not work. It truly will help you to plan activities before you can go.
I hope this gives you a picture of what to expect on a road-trip these days. Whether you are ready of not to travel, know that when you are ready that there’s always someone on your side. So what do you think? Are you ready?
Cheers to loving your wanderlust,
Kristie
